Project Description: Board games are one of my favorite hobbies alongside 3D printing. Over the years, I’ve modeled my own versions of games, organizers, and other accessories. You can see some of them here.
I modeled my own version of a game called Sigil, not currently available for purchase. I embedded magnets into the board and made player tokens with steel slugs for weight and attraction to the board. For more info and pics, check out my Printables page.
I decided to make organizing trays to consolidate small games with irregular and unnecessarily large boxes into cases meant for 5×7″ photos. Above is an example of a more tightly packed tray for Letter Jam, while below shows the boxes I got off my shelf and the new organizer. You can find these files on my Printables page.
Here’s a tray I made for my 3D printed and painted Catan set. You can see the full board below, which I did not model.
I modeled a custom insert for a game called Onitama to add two expansions into the base box. I used space much more efficiently than the initial tray, such that I created an extra 30mm of vertical space in the bottom of the box to add my own set of pieces for another game called Tak, which can be played using Onitama’s mat.
Here are two boxes I’ve modeled for games that people have published tiles for online. The top game is Hive, and the bottom is Leaves. These two boxes were exercises in using the elasticity of PLA to create latches, since I learned from previous boxes that PLA friction fits loosen over time due to material creep.
