Project Description: This presentation is work from the middle of my master’s degree, when I presented at the 47th International Pyrotechnics Society Seminar. I shared preliminary results from my experiments relating to behavior I had identified when doing powder deposition experiments. I am sharing the slides below. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the results discussed related to videos within the slides, if you are interested in seeing the videos, reach out to me and we can chat. At time of writing, I am working on submitting these results to a journal paper for publication.
Software Used: MATLAB (for data analysis), PCC (high-speed camera software)
Big Wins: I spoke at a conference to an audience of approximately 100 people to share my research. To get there, I had to design experiments, determine feasible and relevant analysis techniques, make conclusions from my testing, compile results into a digestible format.
Challenges: Working with powders is extremely finnicky. Writing the conference paper for this was a tight time crunch since I chose to upgrade from a poster presentation when IPS asked for more oral presenters, which I chose because this was the only conference I’d be presenting at during my master’s.
Key Takeaways: Attending research conferences are a great way to develop ideas with field experts and be exposed to new concepts.
